The Merck Vet Manual mobile application is free and easy to use! As a veterinary student, I love this app and I think this a great online resource for both students and veterinarians. It offers a lot of information from access to hundreds of diseases, online drug calculators, quizzes, cases studies, and more. I would like to share with you my favorite features about it.
One of my favorite features is the images resource. If you are a visual learner like me, this images resource will be very helpful. This section is divided per body system and includes veterinary courses like clinical pathology, pharmacology, and toxicology. There are thousands of images of bacteria, parasite, endocrine diseases, oral abnormalities, and toxic plants to name a few. In addition, there is a videos section that contains many interesting topics and you don’t need to download them to watch them.
My second favorite feature is the Anesthetic drug calculator, it gives you the doses of more than 10 anesthetic drugs for dogs and cats. It also allows you to enter the pet name, owner name, ID and weight, either kilograms or pounds. After you have entered the pet body weight… you will get the doses of Acepromize, Butorphanol, Propofol, and other anesthetics drugs in mg/ml. Also, you have the option to print out that list with all the drugs calculations. There is also an emergency drug calculator, chocolate toxicity calculator and canine morphine-lidocane-ketamine calculator.
Another feature but not least important is the Shortcuts list, in which you add any favorite veterinary topics and have quick access to them! Even better you can drag them and rearrange the order of the shortcuts. Also, you can click to pin shortcuts to the top of the list or unpin the shortcuts to move them to the bottom of the list.
