As I take my regular seat, I can’t help but feel as happy as ever. This day marks the last day of regular classes for me and my classmates. Besides my only remaining final, I won’t ever have to sit in this classroom again.
Of course, I am ecstatic to finally get out of the didactic portion of our curriculum and move on to my clinical year. Even though I know I have put in a lot of work and have taken well over 100 exams by now, it doesn’t seem possible that we have finally reached this point. It doesn’t seem all that long ago that I first sat down with these other random vet students yet now we are really going to be put to the test.
Over the last 3 years, I have become so used to sitting with these people, and they have now become some of my best friends. We’ve gone through what has probably been the most difficult experience that many of us will have to go through. When I started, I didn’t think that this day would ever come and I definitely didn’t think that I would be prepared at all when it did. While I certainly don’t feel that prepared, I know that I am capable of succeeding. I have made it this far, have done pretty well up to this point, and there is no reason why that should change when clinics start in a few weeks.
Now that regular classes are over, I’m excited to be challenged and finally use everything that I have learned to start treating animals.
