There’s always a bunch of different school-branded merchandise being offered to students. With the holiday season coming up, it seems like every club is sending out emails about their goods. For some reason, I’m not really into all of these kinds of things myself. I don’t own any shirts with our vet school logo on it or anything like that and I don’t plan to buy any.
To be honest, I’ve only bought one of these special gifts. But it is the most amazing thing ever. It’s called a magic mug. It has the school’s logo and outlines of all the different domestic species that veterinarians treat. When you add some hot water that’s when the magic begins. The heat reacts with the images on the mug and skeletons appear over the silhouettes of the animals.
When I first saw this mug, I knew of one person in my life that needed to have it. My oma or the German equivalent for grandmother, who always drinks out of a mug. She loves little things like this and all I could imagine was her looking at it, seeing the skeletons pop up and her shouting “Nifty!!!” So, of course, I just had to buy it.
On Christmas day I gave her the present and she opened it up. Before adding the hot water, she thought it was an amazing mug. But when I poured some in and she saw the reaction she was as happy as can be. And as expected, she said that it was very nifty! Since then, I’ve gotten her a few different ones. One has pictures of my sister and I with her and a few others. As someone who hates gift shopping, I’m hoping some more things like these pop up in the next few weeks.
