I just wanted to share this so true and so beautifully written paragraph with all of you before I talk about my own story.
We plan our lives according to a dream that came to us in our childhood, and we find that life alters our plans. And yet, at the end, from a rare height, we also see that our dream was our fate. It’s just that providence had other ideas as to how we would get there. Destiny plans a different route, or turns the dream around, as if it were a riddle, and fulfills the dream in ways we couldn’t have expected.” -Ben Okri
When I was in primary school, I loved studying the Chinese language so much and I always wanted to be a Chinese teacher when I grow up. I wrote on the glass window as my blackboard at home and my father acted as my student. I had so much fun acting a teacher and it was one of the best memories ever. I always have had animals as pets at home since when I was little. I know I love them but little did I think about what I could do for them until the time when I lost one of my cats in junior high school. After searching for her days after days ending up still losing her, I decided to build a shelter for all the homeless animals in the world. Not until my second year in senior high school when I lost my dog did I first realize that I could help my beloved animals by being a veterinarian. I wanted to educate the general public so that they don’t make the mistake that I made which took away my dog’s life from me.
After the college entrance examination, everyone in my family wanted me to study chemistry, physics or some kind of science or technology as my major in college. I loved science and technology so much and I ranked them first when applying to college. Somehow I found out that there was a veterinary science major in one of the colleges that I applied to and then I also put veterinary science on the list but it was not my top choice. When the result came out, my family and I were a little disappointed that I did not get into my top-ranked choices. However, it turned out I was so fascinated with medicine and animal and there is no better fit for me than veterinary medicine. It’s not a single choice regarding one and their perfect-fit career, it’s a multiple choice. I might still be a great scientist if I studied chemistry or physics. The paragraph above exactly tells the story of mine. It’s providence that the initial but short-term disappointment that leads to the fulfillment of the dream that’s deeply hidden but safely kept in my heart. You never know where life will bring you.
Life is so beautiful and so is a dream.
