I’m not sure if this is just a PEI thing, or a Canadian thing, but the trend of #stormchips has been going around the island like crazy. We seem to be hunkered down inside, hibernating and eating storm chips with the storms going wild outside. This winter was supposed to be mild according to the Farmer’s Almanac, which my class is starting to call BS on. In the past week we have been nailed with about three feet of snow in total, with another storm brewing for this evening. Last week, school was canceled on Tuesday. This week, school was also canceled on Tuesday.
Today, being Thursday, I woke up, looked out the window at the dusting of snow we had on the cars and started getting ready for school. Compared with the two feet we got on Tuesday, the dusting and clear roads looked like a marked improvement over the conditions the storm had left yesterday. However, as I left my room to brush my teeth, one of my roommates informed me that we had a snow day. What?!
From last Tuesday’s storm, we just finished making up lectures this Monday. Now we had four lectures from Tuesday to make up, and then today added three lectures and a lab to the make up pile. If the weather is correct, we’re supposed to ACTUALLY get a storm tonight, which means it looks like we’re about to have a four-day weekend.
Take away message from this post: don’t go to Canada for vet school if you really hate snow, because we get a metric poop ton of it. Also, don’t cancel school if the roads are clear because when the storm actually comes, it’ll bite us in the butt with more classes to make up!
