Three weeks ago, I walked across the stage of the Kellogg’s Hotel and Conference Room in my school to receive my white coat! This was one of the most exciting days of my life and it symbolized the beginning of the clinical phase in my veterinary career. As a third-year vet student, the white coat ceremony marked my accomplishments, my goals, and my transition from classroom to clinics. I am glad I could celebrate this special day with my beautiful family. My parents and big sister have been my motivation and strength during this journey. No one knows how much I miss them and all the hard work I have put into the past two years.
I feel blessed to be part of the Class of 2020 and one step closer to my big dream. While I was receiving my white coat, I had flashbacks of my journey in undergraduate and vet school… it reminded me all the challenges and obstacles that I had to overcome on my way to vet school. As it was dealing with the people that tried to discourage myself from pursuing my doctorate in veterinary medicine. But, I also realized how veterinary school has shaped me into a self-determined and stronger woman. I will never stop learning and doing my best. I want to make my family proud and inspire youth to believe in their goals/dreams. I cannot believe that I am about to start a new chapter in my career and I will be finally able to apply what I have learned in the classroom into the real world.
