Every new year brings with it the motivation and hopes to live the best year ever. 2021 is a new chapter that will give us 365 opportunities to make things happen. Today, I wanted to share a few tips to make you reach your goals this new year.
#1 State goals with a positive view
When setting a goal, avoid the temptation to state your wishes negatively. For example, “I will not get anxious quickly.” Restated positively sounds more like this, “I will learn ways to have more control over my anxiety.”
#2 Focus on the process
The process of working for what you want is more important than the outcome. The outcome might change at the end of the journey, but the process is what you will always remember.
#3 Reflect on the past and make room for the new
Start by reflecting on what you’ve accomplished thus far and forgive yourself and let go of regret. I learned this one from Vet Success Academy, and it helps by clearing the clutter from our mind.
#4 Visualize your goals
Visualization is a powerful technique that gives us the energy to feel positive and accomplished. It helps to train our brains subconsciously and make us feel as I already have accomplished what we want.
#5 Create a specific plan
List your goals and the steps you need to take to accomplish them. Write out the things you want to achieve each week at the beginning of the week to get closer to the goal.
#6 Get support
Feeling support from family and friends will help give you the encouragement you need. Tell some of your loved ones about your goal plans so they can cheer you on.
#7 Reward yourself
Each time you accomplish a small step toward your goal, take the time to reward yourself. Rewarding yourself should be a simple and easy way to keep you going. For example, you might reward yourself with a delicious dessert or just by taking some time to relax at home.
