Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite time of year. What could be more wonderful than food, family and giving thanks for all of the wonderful things in our life? Fortunately, the joy of Thanksgiving can continue year-round by placing more awareness on the power of gratitude.
It can be incredibly easy to forget to give thanks every day for the good in our world. Sometimes, it can even be difficult to recognize that good things are present. In order to place more of a focus on the good things in my life, I began to make it a point to write down three things that I’m grateful for every day. After just a couple of days of making a conscious effort to document my gratitude, I realized that there is always something to be grateful for… always.
Some days, my list is extremely simple: a tasty sandwich for lunch, a beautiful sunset, a warm cup of coffee or just the ability to wake up and leave a little handprint on the world today. Even in bad days, I find that I can be grateful for the chance to make tomorrow brighter.
Placing focus on gratitude has completely shifted my outlook on the world. I don’t default to focusing on the negative things that happen to me. Instead, I am thankful for the positive things. For me, it is gratitude that shifts the glass from being half empty to half full and I hope it can do the same for you.
