A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Maxbetter has been cultivating his interest in veterinary medicine since a young age. From being read Russian children’s stories about “Doctor Aybolit” by his grandmother to interning at the Israeli Wildlife Hospital to practicing at several small animal hospitals, he has thoroughly enjoyed learning about and sharing his joy of animals with others over the years. Outside the clinic, he can be found performing his rap songs, playing soccer and basketball, and going on hikes with family and friends. He currently practices in New York City.

Veterinary school has given Kyndel more than she could have possibly imagined – a sense of belonging, true purpose, confidence, lifelong friends, and a lot of medical knowledge. She believes time in veterinary school should not be rushed but enjoyed full heartedly. One gets what one puts into education. With a passion for speaking about the issues that students and professionals face in the veterinary field, Kyndel became a SAVMA delegate and has gone on to become the current SAVMA executive board Editor-in-Chief. These positions allow Kyndel to nationally represent her university and veterinary students in the hopes of making a real difference. Kyndel hopes to provide unique insight into the world of SAVMA and bring more attention to the importance and necessity of the wellness movement.

Originally from New York City, Dr. Laurie Hess is one of approximately 150 board-certified avian specialists worldwide. After graduating from Yale University, she earned her veterinary degree at Tufts University. From Tufts, she went on to complete an internship and residency in avian/exotic medicine at the world-renowned Animal Medical Center in New York City where she practiced for more than a decade. Dr. Hess now owns a bird and exotic pet specialty hospital in New York, the Veterinary Center for Birds and Exotics, where she treats birds, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, reptiles, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, and other exotics. She is Director of Pet Health and Nutrition for the exotic pet food company, ZuPreem. Dr. Hess is an active member and Social Media Chairperson for the Association of Avian Veterinarians, a contributing author to the Merck Veterinary Manual and is a frequent contributor to websites, radio broadcasts, and TV shows about exotic pets, as well as a lecturer on exotic pet care around the world.

Brandy knew from a very young age that she was destined to be a veterinarian. She grew up riding horses, working cows, and training dogs. Her current interests in veterinary medicine are surgery, behavior, and theriogenology.
