Well everyone, we’ve all made it through 2013! I’d like to comment on how time passed very quickly, but some days it felt like it went on forever. Along with coming to the end of the year, it’s also put me one step closer to the DVM we all covet. I’m not typically one for New Year’s resolutions, but I thought it over and there are a couple of things I’d like to try to do differently moving forward.
1: I need to make more of an effort to be on time for class. I count as one of the more commonly late people I mentioned in a previous post. Though it’s not quite chronic, I think I’ll take a stab at being on time for all of my classes, especially in the 8 o’clock hour.
2: I need to manage my time more efficiently. I haven’t quite figured this part out yet, but I just have to believe there’s a more effective way to juggle these classes. Hopefully I’ll figure it out during the spring semester.
3: When I need a “me” day, I’m not going to hesitate to take it. Don’t take this as me actively advocating missing classes, but I woke up one morning and decided I just couldn’t do it that day. So I didn’t; I slept in an extra hour, had breakfast, watched the news, and spent the day studying. At that point in time it was the best thing I could have done, and it made the whole rest of my week better. If I need another one, I’ll take the time I need and not feel guilty about it.
4: This is a big one, and one I think needs the most improvement on my end. I need to remember that there’s a section of my life that has nothing to do with school. We’ve all been there. We have our collective noses to the grindstone and get so focused on what we’re doing that before you know it you haven’t talked to your mom in 3 or 4 weeks. With most of the people in my life (and I’m sure most of your support systems as well), it will rarely be brought to my attention as problematic, because everyone understands how demanding vet school is. However, the phone call, email or random text message will always be helpful and welcomed.
I hope everyone has been having a relaxing break and is ready to get back to the life. It’s right around the corner. Happy New Year everyone!
