2020 is almost gone, and it has been one of the more challenging years for many of us. No one could ever imagine that a worldwide pandemic will hit us at the beginning of the year and change everything. Today I want to reflect on the most important lessons I have learned from COVID-19.
#1 Wearing a mask is now an integral part of our daily lives. Face masks are not only needed for surgical procedures or exclusive for health care professionals. They are now our shield to protect us from a virus that killed thousands of people and changed the way we live.
#2 Telemedicine, Facetime, and phone calls are the best ways to interact with pet owners safely. The communication interaction has become more demanding and handshakes are no longer needed.
#3 Traveling and attending professional conferences was a privilege. Many veterinary conferences have switched to the online format to protect us. And there is no need for traveling long hours or to wear business casual clothes.
#4 Mental health awareness has become more critical than ever. The feelings of anxiety and fatigue have impacted us more during this pandemic. No one has everything figured out, but we should keep going.
#5 The power of mindset and music has made a difference in keeping our mood in these hard times. Thinking positive and tuning into our favorite playlist is more powerful now than before this pandemic. Keeping music in mind is making a massive difference in how we feel and perceive our world.
#6 Being alive is a major blessing, and we should never take our health for granted. That is the biggest lesson learned from COVID-19 and the one that we should always remember when this pandemic is finally over.
