With the last of my final grades trickling in, it’s truly a relief to see the passing marks from classes I struggled with. Embryology and physiology were not even remotely easy, and the amount of time I put in to pass was substantial. However, it all paid off, with the major end result of me moving on to my second year at AVC!
It felt very weird to pack up my car the day after finals and head home. I hadn’t been home since Christmas break, as the ten-hour drive or $900 plane ticket do not allow for weekend trips. Then, to get home and not have anything I had to do was awesome. I don’t have to study! I don’t have to do work! I don’t have to spend evenings in the anatomy lab! I got to pick up a book for pleasure reading for the first time in what seems like forever. I went and visited my pony and played with my dog. It’s extremely weird not having a weight on my shoulder of all of the things I need to do.
I have a part-time job for the summer, and I’m hoping to get some hours shadowing in clinics and going on farm calls, so I certainly won’t be bored. I really hope to be able to apply the things I’ve learned in first year and be able to build on the skills I’ve started to develop. I also plan on catching up on some sleep and reminding myself what it feels like to relax. I’m now a second year!
