The year that I thought would never come is finally here. It feels like yesterday that I was accepted into veterinary school and envisioning myself becoming a doctor in 2020. The time is finally here and I can’t believe it. I always say that the days are long, but the years go by fast. I thought I’d share some of my goals for the next year and how I plan to accomplish them!
Doctoring—I think we all have a fear of what life will be like after we leave our security blanket (vet school) and I am definitely feeling mixed emotions of excitement and fear. I have a goal of doing the best I can to connect with my patients and their families to ensure they always have a positive experience at the vet office. For me, that means making it a priority to provide clear communication with clients, fear-free handling with animals, and being the person I would want to take my animals to! I also want to feel confident in what I am doing, teaching, and educating clients on.
How I plan to get there: BE A SPONGE. I have incredible mentors at my job and I know they will be there to challenge me but also teach me the ins and outs of being a general practitioner. I will continue taking and utilizing their advice and learning ways to help educate clients without utilizing medical jargon. I also will complete the remainder of my fear-free module so I have the skills and tools to help my patients have a less stressful experience.
