I’ve finally set the date. No, unlike most of my classmates and other friends, I’m not talking about setting a wedding date or other really exciting life plans. For me, I now know when I will be taking my NAVLE exam. This is the biggest test of my life and I only have about three months to get ready for it.
Upon entering veterinary school I didn’t even know what the NAVLE was. It’s an all-day, 360-question test that encompasses everything that I have ever learned in veterinary school. And to make things worse, the majority of the questions are on dogs and cats and species that I don’t want to practice on. We’ve all been working very hard to get to this point and it’s nerve-racking knowing that it all comes down to this. If I pass, I get my license and if I don’t then I need to keep doing endless amounts of studying.
Knowing that my school has a 99% pass rate over the past several years gives me a lot of hope. But then again I could be the one person that does not pass. Overall I’ve made it this far and have done well throughout school, so I should have no problem passing the big test. The next three months will be rough and I’m glad I have an easier schedule clerkship wise to get ready for it. But one thing is for sure – November 30th can’t come soon enough and it will be nice to have a chance to breathe afterward.
