As a new grad, I have realized that mentorship is everything and having a good mentor is vital. I believe in the power of mentorship and no matter if it’s in person or online mentorship. For that, I always try to get the most of every mentorship opportunity I have had. That’s why I recently joined the fantastic community of Vet Mentors Solutions (VMS). This is a new platform that has launched over 100 veterinary mentorship videos. It was created by three successful small animal veterinarians Dr. Dan Phillips, Dr. Dan Markwalder, and Dr. Adam Conroy. For the past months, they have been working together to transform how new veterinarians are mentored and trained. They have seen that their structured mentorship model works in real life. So, they decided to bring it to us as an online platform to help students master the essential skills. Dr. Conroy and Dr. Markwalder are also known for being the 7S Society’s co-founders that help students reach their practice ownership goals.
VMS is considered a mentorship revolution that addresses many topics vet students struggle with, like pharmacology, endocrinology, and client communication. But their video library is divided into several categories, including dentistry, toxicology, soft tissue surgery, and more.
One of my favorite parts is that most of the videos are five minutes long, and they have notes on the side. I love how easy it has been to understand CCL rupture, Cushing/Addison’s disease, sedation protocols, and more. I feel I am building confidence and gaining more skills to become the best version of myself.
I can say that it is hard to get good mentorship in these times of pandemic. But I am glad VMS is providing me great online tools to succeed as a new graduate veterinarian.
