And just like that, vet school is complete! It hasn’t really hit me yet that I’m a doctor now. One week ago, I crossed the stage and received a hood signifying my transition from veterinary student to veterinarian. The amazing adventure of veterinary school has come to an end, but new adventures await on the horizon. Even though I am no longer a student, I know that there will always be more to learn and that is exciting and inspiring to me.
In July, I will be joining an emergency practice in Wauwatosa, WI as an associate veterinarian. I am extremely excited to take these new steps as a doctor and to be returning to the Midwest. Choosing a practice to join was a difficult decision for me. Geographically, I wasn’t sure where I wanted to be located. I thought about staying in California and the West Coast, but ultimately my fiancé and I chose to return to the Midwest to be near to family.
The practice itself is amazing and feels like it will be a good fit for the kind of veterinarian I aspire to become. I am able to practice integrative medicine techniques such as acupuncture and laser while also honing my medicine and emergency skills. The clinic will provide strong mentorship which was incredibly important to me as your first year out of school really shapes how you practice. I am extremely excited to begin this new stage of my journey. I have worked for most of my life to achieve my goal of becoming a veterinarian. It feels unreal, yet absolutely wonderful, to actually be living my dream.
That’s all folks.
