Do not worry. It is really as simple as that.
I was never a particularly worried person during high school and my younger years. Like anybody, I can remember times of anxiety. Most of the time it was due to relationship dynamics. Ah, the joys of being a teenager! I was rarely over-worried about school things, even though I took school in an enthusiastic manner and held myself to high academic standards.
Then came the undergraduate years. All of a sudden, classes really mattered in order to get admitted into veterinary school. For me, classes were very challenging at first, especially compared to my classes in high school. I still believe that General Chemistry was the most challenging class that I have ever taken. The shock of the workload was overwhelming to me. I was worried. I was anxious. I knew I had to figure out a way to change that.
Upon starting a regular meditation schedule, surrounding myself with the right people, continuing to exercise, being nice to everyone, and starting to read books in addition to assigned school books, I found that my worries seemed less and my anxiety vanished. I have been doing this for 4 years now, and people always ask me how I have time to do everything. Now, some people ask me how I even manage to stay afloat in veterinary school. But, the thing is, I feel like I have more time than I did during those first stressful weeks of my undergraduate career. I feel that knowledge is easier to retain and concepts are simpler to understand. I feel like school experiences really stick and that I can easily pick out the clinically relevant information out of the massive barrage of seemingly endless facts that we are presented with every day. Even more, I love the people I am surrounded with. It is enjoyable to work with them.
How does it all work? I do not think there is a simple answer. But I will say this. To those of you struggling with a problem or trying to reach a goal, do not worry. Instead, focus on why you are doing what you do. Focus on your motives. Focus on what you think is beneficial to yourself and the world around you. You may find that when your spirit is in line with your actions, many things will fall into place.
