I am so happy to report that after several interviews and lots of hours spent reading job postings and reviewing contracts, I finally picked one and will be starting a new job in May as a mixed animal practitioner in Ohio. I think it will be a great first job for me, and I am really looking forward to moving back to a small town and out of the city.
Now that I have secured an elusive contract, I am moving forward and preparing as much as I can to be the best veterinarian I can be in that clinic. I got a list of all the products they stock and the prices so that I will be familiar with what medications I’ll have available to treat common issues like ear infections or allergy flare-ups. I’m also working on reviewing basic skills that I know I will use daily in practice like reading ear and skin cytologies, reviewing nerve blocks used for dental extractions, and reviewing which common preventive products cover fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites, heartworm, etc.
It is a really exciting time and one that I have been preparing for for four years. I’m also hoarding boxes from the central supply area for packing and slowly starting to work on selling everything I don’t absolutely need, so I don’t have to move it. It seems hard to believe that these four years have flown by, but they have and I am excited for the future.
