With clinical year fast approaching, I can’t help but get excited about where the next year will take me. While I know I will be spending a lot of time in Blacksburg at the school, there are plenty of opportunities to go elsewhere and get my hands on some animals.
Currently, for my externals, I know that I will be heading home to Vermont to work at a large dairy practice just a handful of miles from my house. I’ll also be doing another dairy-based internship in North Carolina in September. For most people, this probably isn’t that big of a deal but I have never ever traveled. Besides the veterinary school application process, the only trips I have ever taken were to Boston, Montreal, or to New York City and I hadn’t ever been on a plane before either.
Moving down to Virginia and being away from my friends and family back home was a big change for me when vet school started. But after almost three years here, things are starting to get a bit stale and I’m ready to go somewhere else.
I’ve never been to North Carolina so the thought of going to a new state for 3 weeks is great. Whether it be meeting new people, all the different things that I can do in the area and things that I could get to see, I am ready to get started. I still have a few extra blocks to fill currently so there are even more places and opportunities to choose from. Veterinary school is starting to get exciting, we are almost to the point that we all dreamed of when we got our white coats before the start of first-year. No matter what happens or where I go, I know I can handle anything and I will make the most of any opportunity.
